I wanted to take a moment to personally thank you for the wonderfulpresentation this evening at the Pasadena (CA) Radio Club. It was one of the very BEST presentations we have had [a 50-year-old club] and you did a masterful job in presenting the material and making it fun at the same time. I am sure the presentation motivated many of our club members to get active in working the FM satellites.
To say I was DELIGHTED to find your Web site and to learn about working satellites is the ultimate understatement. I'm a relatively new ham (Technician for several months now) and will be upgrading to General at the Dayton Hamvention. I've been focusing on satellite work and have followed your recommendations ...
I don’t think I’ll ever forget Clint Bradford’s last presentation to our club about satellites. He stopped right in the middle of his talk, looked at his watch and declared: “You know, it’s one thing to TALK about how fun and easy it is to work a satellite, so I want EVERYBODY TO GET UP, and let’s walk out to the parking lot to work a satellite! And we marched out of the restaurant meeting room while his wife stayed behind to watch our stuff as Clint showed us how to talk to three countries (Mexico, the U.S. and Canada) on that particular pass.
I would like to thank everyone that responded to my query here and for providing suggestions and encouraging words. Special thanks go out to Clint K6LCS for his suggestions and of course John K8YSE for being very patient and making the contact and confirming it later on. Good luck to all trying to make their first satellite contact! Keep trying and you will make it eventually. My journey has begun.

I appreciate your tireless effort and work in supplying the rest of us hams all the info on how to contact the birds. I have a Kenwood TH-D72A and building the antennas for 2M/440. Should have it completed shortly and ready to make some contacts. I have been licensed since 1960. BTW, I took some photos the last 2 times I attended your presentation. K6LCS gave a fantastic presentation on amateur satellites. It was most informative and entertaining. Clint's passion for the subject was evident, and I would imagine that the club members individually and or in a group will be eager to try satellite contact in the near future.
I wanted to thank you for your wealth of information on your website. I've been a Ham for a little over two months now, and on my first radio (a Yaesu FT1DR) and using the information from your site I made contacts on SO-50 on my first try using my HT and an Arrow mounted on a tripod (to free my hands up). This is way more fun than I thought I would have with an HT.
The site is just fine. I just didn't know it existed and was about to give up on working FM birds because the [another site] site is such a mess with outdated information and broken links.
Can't see how to improve on perfection. Keep up the great work.

Everything in the site is great! But more specifically - the well-written and easy-to- understand instructions on how to work SATCOMs, information on the HTs and the antennas. This site was a great follow up to your article in the May 2012 CQ magazine.

I’m a newbie and last night (using a FT-60 and Elk L-5) I was able to contact SO-50 on my very first attempt at satellite work! All due to your excellent website!

SO-50 downlink of only .250 milliwatts was awesome to listen to ... when you consider the science and low power, hard to put into words - but you had the crowd all smiles! Your site took me from zero knowledge in to getting an HT and an Arrow. In less than four months I have qualified for VUCC on the FM birds. A great site for the beginner on the birds. It un-mystifies the birds.
Oh your site was certainly put to use for my first SO-50 contacts! I used your frequency list to program my FT-60 and many of the tips and tricks helped make the difference! Thank you for all the great info you have put together. Very fun.

Simplicity ... the idea of working sats "sounds complicated" but that’s really not the case. You keep the language simple, illustrations simple, and concept simple ... you give folks the idea that any ham can do this (which they can) with the right equipment ... if they follow the directions provided here.

The four-page guide to satellites still has a lot of high-end information for not only a new ham, but experienced hams who have never tried satellite comms.
You give "JUST THE FACTS" without all the BS. I am new to Sats and found this very straightforward and easy to understand. I can't wait for my first outing.
Between this site and your message group I've been able to go from knowing nothing about working satellites to being able to do it pretty quickly.
I had never thought of working the birds. I mainly concentrated on HF with a little 2m on the local repeaters. It was time for me to get a new HT and during that process I thought about a dual bander. Somehow I came upon this site. I got jazzed, bought a small whip, then an Arrow. Within a year I had completed VUCC and WAS. Both with 5 watts and the Arrow. Had it not been for this site I don't believe I would have discovered this part of the hobby. What a blast it is "working the birds" with such a reasonable investment. Great Site! 73.
